I realized that I haven't made a post here in quite a while. That's because there isn't much to update at the moment. I'm doing the downsizing process, but it's going a little slower than planned because I've been very busy. And the saving process is ticking along, though I sometimes fear I'm never going to save enough money to be able to go! (Particularly with my tendency towards doing too much study, see point re being busy)

There are some small things that I can make a start on. For instance, I've got enough bath products to last me about 2 years, so clearly I can have two baths or showers per day with 6 different sorts of bath product in them*. I've got video cassettes to go through and sort out and I will need to transfer the content of some irreplacable ones (hmmm, need DVD writer or similar!). I can find duplicate copies of books.

*I'm kidding.

They say that a watched visa application never boils. Or is never selected. Or something. They must be right, because I forgot to look last night when I went to bed, and this morning, I logged on to the immigration website and found that my visa has been approved.

So, I have to travel to NZ before 24th July 2009 to take it up. There's an event less than a week before that I'll be at (hence why I didn't post it off until *after*).

So, I was worrying over nothing that it might take two months (well, I only thought that because the representatives for bureau people said it could) and might not be ready in time for my birthday :-).
I've posted my medical off. Now to hear from them!

Previously, I have done a National Trust working holiday within the UK. I enjoyed it very much and would like to do similar conservation work in the future. I have been looking around for similar schemes to this in NZ. So far, most of what I have found are your standard very expensive holidays abroad that happens to have a bit of a conservation theme.

These are not particularly compatible with my budget. Hard work, staying in a tent/dorm and not being paid, that's fine. Hard work, staying in a tent/dorm and paying a nominal amount to cover board and lodging, also fine. Hard work, staying in a tent/dorm and paying hundreds of pounds a week for it? Rather less fine.

Today, I had my medical and chest X-ray. I should hear whether I pass or fail in a week or two.

Hello all!

I'm currently going through the process of saving up money to take an extended trip to NZ. Possibly very extended, who can tell...

This journal is intended to be a public diary of the whole process.

I'm particularly keen to hear from expats (of all nationalities and to wherever, but most especially to NZ) and also people living in New Zealand.
